Ohh well
That's like having your hopes set on a Tactics based weapon.

Cept a tactics weapon would be horrid >.> unless tactics suddenly became different by stating "improves damage on...*insert whatever a tactics based weapon would be here*" which could happen. You see gw wiki actually said there was an inspiration wand though; really got my hopes up. *sigh* maybe we will get a fast casting wand instead.

The real question is -- are staves better than wand/focus combos?

Inventory space? Flexibility? Other?

Style is most important btw.

Wand + Focus, until I get a platinum staff.

I will take a combination of both tyvm...
Prenerf FFS+Rockmolder/or if you lack those...
-20/20+20/20 gear
Denravi+foci combo
+18 energy staff
+19 energy staff

...ftw

*adjust accordingly to zone (example:if facing murzaat towers bring -energy gear and a long bow instead of the staves)

In the mursaat tower case why not just wield a wand+shield, slightly more armor (and damage reduction when +stance) and you can actually do damage

Never really counted on wand "damage" as "damage" though...
Longbow>wand damage...as usally there is a hill etc. nearby, and you don't get that nasty 20 damage every couple sec.

newbie weapon longbow damage (from fail req) < 11-22 + 20%. As for hill... buh? Your team should be near and attacking, and with focus swaps you should still be casting on the seals/jades

Imho, if your team is relying on you as a mesmer, to kill an Ether Seal from height bonus, you need a new team. On Ring of Fire the first Ether Seal at the fort is perfectly placed near a huge hill, my Ranger can take that tower solo due to bonus damage. Same goes for the Ether Seal in Perdition Rock. But really, whats gonna do more damage? You out of casting range using a Longbow, or you at cast range having surprised it with Backfire and Empathy? You may aswell just stay nearby.

True but he said "wand damage"
Yet hey~just between weapons the bow would win ^_^; add spells and the - energy set wins.

Umm, no, because you don't meet req, bow loses. And wand+shield(or nothing) = low energy set = spells = win.

But bah seals aren't really that dangerous anyway

Meh 15-28 1/2 due to failed requirements=7.5-14, it is low damage, factor in the hill and it becomes reasonable again ^_~

*notes that the -energy scroll adds armor; and that shield has a failed requirement as well 5<8 as well, but it is very similar to my bow>wand arguement.

*agrees to the seals=/=threat; if we had 8 people with longbows...

Shield is +45hp, -2 damage if you're in distortion and using those mods. Factor THAT in.

Default Alas

I've came to post back on this topic. Forgive me for not posting the last few days, I was banned from Guru for posting in my Buy topic in the Buy Subforum under the 24 hour rule, which I had forgotten about since I do not buy to often.

So, now that I am back..

I like the Deeproot Sorrow+Dream Hunter suggestion and will be looking into them price wise and what not.

i have 2 sets ... my primary set has 20/20 on both the chaxram and a gazing wand.

second set has energy boost to both for when it gets thick. less regen, but i nice boost of about 30 energy

both sets are collector/crafter items .. not a green to be seen

Let me know how that goes, I'd be interested in a set of those as well.

Considering the seal shouldn't be attacking the mesmer in the first place...I don't that counts as much Avarre unless you are taking into account the -20hp effect; in which case you will live a teeny bit longer...not as long as a +60hp staff though. Yet using distortion will eat up your energy will it not, and these are very energy deprived scenarios >.<

Erm, don't weapons all act as Starter weapons if you don't meet there requirements, not half damage? Least thats what i read a while ago.

Seals =/= threat if you have a full team anyway, a full team with longbows is just pointless anyway. Unless its a Barrage team of course

Well they arn't /R or anything, but I'm pretty sure a team just with longbow weapons could beat the seal without getting touched.
Pretty sure its half, but we do know it is reduced. I can run some tests; have a 15%^50 req 9 storm bow that I've been trying to sell I could use to test...(<-buy me!)

I second ^^

Using longbows to shoot a seal is still a gimmick, considering seals are fairly weak and you should just rush them, interrupt their 2 spells, and kill.
